Artist’s Inspiration
I was born in the foothill of Himalayas in India. I grew-up exploring nature trails and being shy and reserved, often interacting with the nature as my dear companions. Artwork derives inspiration from my love for nature by highlighting its beauty, honesty and perseverance. As a fiber artist and a textile designer, my work continues to blur the line between art, craft and fashion.
Rooted in culture of ayurveda, yoga and handicraft, with a meditative approach to art-making, my practice engages mindful use of material and processes. Turmeric, Indigo and Madder as key ingredients, textile works are intimately linked to country’s history and dedicated to conservation, revival of traditional processes, care and healing. As a sustainable textile practitioner, it is my responsibility to be aware how my work interact, relates and impact environment it exists in! Since each of Soil-Seed-Plant-Fiber/Farmer-Dyer-Weaver-Consumer chain play an equal role to maintain a healthy ecosystem, it is important to create and integrate self-sustaining systems. Thus, over the years I have worked from ground up to revive traditional methods through art and community work.

Please join me for the opening reception of David Brower’s annual juried exhibition, 2023 featuring works by four Northern California artists. The show is co-authored by Jose Gonzalez @josebilingue. Show focuses on “How can food be not just something we simply individually consume, but also an expression of care as a community?”
